The Maltese Dominican Province is pleased to announce the Diaconal Ordination of Br. Ian Zammit. Br. Ian was born in Pietà on October 11, 1979. He was baptized in the Parish of San Bastjan, Qormi. For several years he was a member of the MUSEUM (Society of Christian Doctrine), where he states that he learned many qualities and values which, together with the upbringing and values he received from home, made him what he is today.
As a child he attended primary school in Qormi, and then Mount Carmel College run by the Carmelites. After obtaining qualifications at the Ordinary Level, he attended the Higher Secondary in Naxxar, and later began a B.A in Theology (Hons), where he graduated in 2007. In 2011 he also followed a PGCE course in order to be able to teach Religion in schools. Over time, he taught at various elementary schools, which, he claims, served for him to gained a number of wonderful experiences and lessons, including teamwork. In 2015 he completed a Master of Arts in Theology and from 2019 to 2021 he completed a Master in Theology course in preparation for the priesthood.
In 2017 he received the Dominican habit, and spent the novitiate year at the Convent of Our Lady of the Grotto, in Rabat. In 2018 Br. Ian professed the Evangelical Councils of Obedience, Poverty and Chastity for three years. Between 2018 and 2019 he spent a year in Bologna, where he pursued studies in Philosophy. Br. Ian says that this too was an experience that helped him continue to grow and mature, while granting him a broader understanding of the Order of Preachers. On September 14, Br Ian made his Solemn Profession in which he promised to live Obedience, Poverty and Chastity until his death.
Br. Zammit will receive the Ordination to the Diaconate on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 9:30am through the imposition of hands by Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna at St. John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta.
