The Maltese Domminican missionary, Fr Bernard Caruana OP has just published a new book entitled, Pier Giorgio Frassati: A Witness to Youthful Holiness. This book offers an inspiring and concise look into the life of the remarkable life of the young Italian layman (1901–1925). Frassati, known for his dynamic motto, 'I want to live, not just drag myself along,' is presented not as a distant saint, but as an intensely engaged young man who channelled his passions - from mountain climbing to political action - into radical Christian service.

The book skilfully highlights how Frassati's deep faith, rooted in daily Eucharist and frequent prayer, transformed his ordinary life into a mission. A member of the high Turin bourgeoisie, he dedicated himself fiercely to the poor and suffering, becoming a Dominican Tertiary and a vocal anti-Fascist. His commitment to become a mining engineer, 'to serve Christ more among the miners,' underscores his dedication to practical holiness.

Caruana effectively captures the energy and purity of a soul that refused to settle for mediocrity. This is more than a historical account; it is a powerful invitation to modern youth to embrace a life of enthusiastic faith, intellectual rigor, and profound charity.

Frassati’s premature death from polio, likely contracted while serving the poor, serves as the ultimate testament to his generous spirit.

This biography is highly recommended for anyone seeking an actionable and joyful model of sanctity in the modern world. The author doesn't simply offer a historical narrative, but a clear invitation to today's youth to live a life of joyful faith, open-mindedness, and great charity, just like Pier Giorgio
