I WANT TO BECOME A DOMINICAN

HOW TO DISCOVER MY CALLING?

The call to religious or priestly life is born first of all on account of the love of God. It is God who makes the call to share in the mission of spreading the gospel through a more intimate union with him. Often, this calls is latent, it wells up in silence in the heart of man. There is no time when God does not call preachers from the heart of the people, because the call to conversion is necessary as long as the ages last.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE COME A DOMINICAN?

A Dominican is one who seeks a challenge in his life, by becoming a contradiction to the world and a sign of hope. That is the reason why a Dominican is bound by the religious vows. By them he becomes more Christlike in a more concrete way. The religious is poor, chaste, and obedient like Christ. Through this radicalism, incarnated within his very life a a religious, the Dominican bears witness to the hope he cherishes. Thus the Dominican is first and foremost religious.

Furthermore, since the Order was established for the salvation of souls, St. Dominic desired that the brethren be also intellectually well formed, so that the truth they achieve communion with the truth they proclaim, whilst also being able to meet the needs of the people of God. This was to be coupled with prayer, that puts the preacher in the presence of God.

The Order is made up of priests, religious, and lay people.  They are all members of the Order in the service of the Word and the mission of the Preaching that it brings.

WHAT SHOULD I DO?

A time of discernment and reflection before full commitment to the religious life is imperative. One way to do this is to spend some time getting to know us through live-ins at our priories. In this way one gets to know the life of the Friars, and the friars themselves in first hand. To this end, the Vocations Promoter is willing to meet up with anyone who is interested in the Dominican life, and to walk with anyone in search of God’s will in their lives.
