From January 28, 2023 to January 28, 2025 a triple jubilee will be celebrated of the canonisation, death, and birth of St. Thomas Aquinas.
On this occasion, the Apostolic Penitentiary granted the concession of a Plenary Indulgence "to the well-disposed faithful who will participate in the Eucharistic celebrations organized by the Dominican Family in our churches and schools on the occasion of the jubilee of the canonization and death of St. Thomas Aquinas (from January 28, 2023 to January 28, 2025), as well as to the faithful who will make pilgrimages to the churches, shrines and oratories under his patronage".
What is a Plenary Indulgence?
"An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, which the faithful Christian who is duly disposed gains under certain prescribed conditions through the action of the Church which, as the minister of redemption, dispenses and applies with authority the treasury of the satisfactions of Christ and the saints" (From the Catechism of the Catholic Church, par. 1471).
A plenary indulgence signifies the remission of all punishments due to sin. Thus, to successfully obtain an indulgence it is necessary that the faithful be in a state of grace, that is to say:
The faithful must have truly repented of sins committed and must be completely detached from any sin, even venial, with the intention not to sin again;
The faithful must also pray for the Pope's Intention (by saying an Our Father and Hail Mary);
The faithful must also go to confession and receive communion at least fifteen days prior or after obtaining the indulgence.
